Cellist, Derek Menchan, is a 1993 graduate of the Manhattan School of Music,
were he received the Pablo Casals Award of Musical Achievement and Human
Endeavor. A former student of Dudley Powers, Mr. Menchan has performed for
Janos Starker, Mstislav Rostropovich and Harvey Shapiro. While residing in
New York, he was principal cellist of the New York Pro Arte Ensemble and
appeared at Allice Tully and Weill Recital Halls as a soloist and chamber
musician. He has backed artists from Robert Merrill to Johnny Mathis.
Mr. Menchan is currently principal cellist with The Orlando Symphony Orchestra.
Derek's many additional talents include what we think is a striking resemblence
to Thelonius Monk.
